84. Lt.-Col. "Jack" John James Harris

BIOGRAPHY: Left school at age 14 and was bonded as an agricultural labourer to help repay family debts.
Later went to North Sydney NS and worked in the coal mines and then to Halifax NS and worked for Moirs Chocalate factory. Enlisted in a Special Service Battalion in Feb 1902 for service in the Boer War but was discharged on 30 Sept 1902 when the remains of the Battalion were disbanded. Enlisted in the Permenant Force Royal Canadian Artillery on 2 Oct 1902. He served in Quebec City, Halifax and Ottawa and did training in England in 1905/6 and 1911/12. He received his commission as Lieutenant in 1916 Royal Canadian Artillery and retired as Lt.-Col. in April 1944 in Ottawa. After retirement he moved to Victoria and was awarded the O.B.E. in January 1946.

87. "Peggy" Margaret May Harris

BIOGRAPHY: She came west from PEI to help her uncle John A MacLeod look after his young family after his wife's sudden death in Nov 1903. A newspaper story written at the time of her 90th birthday indicates she arrived in 1907. She remained with the family until the mid 1920s and made trips home to PEI to visit her family about 1912/3 and in 1915.
In 1925 she married Albert Steacy who was many years older. He died only 2 years later leaving her with a baby son and limited resources.
In 1946 she began raising two foster children, Gloria, about age 5 and Jean about age 3. They remained with her until they were adults.

93. John Virgil MacLeod

EDUCATION: Attended McGill University in Vancouver for two years and in Montreal for one year graduating with a B A degree in 1911.
BIOGRAPHY: Taught school at Mission Superior School as Principal for one year and then at Ladner High School as Principal for two years. He joined North Vancouver High School in 1914 and became Principal in 1920 and remained in that position until his death.

94. William Ray MacLeod

BIOGRAPHY:
Taught school at Parsons Hill School at Chilliwack in 1910-11
Was Principal of Lakeview School in Burnaby BC in 1912-13
Taught school at Carlton School in South Vancouver BC in 1913-15
Served with the 196th University Battalion in the Canadian Army as a machine gunner during World War I during 1916-17. Was severely wounded during the Battle of Vimy Ridge in May 1917 and lost one of his legs.
Was Principal of Lynn Valley School in North Vancouver 1919-31 during which time he also completed his University degree by taking summer courses.
Public School Inspector for Peace River District in Pouce Coupe 1931-34.

EDUCATION: Graduated Chilliwack High School 1911 and Normal School in 1912.

BIOGRAPHY: Taught school at Glen Valley School 1912-13, South Vancouver 1913-16 and Atchelitz 1916.
Royal Naval Air Service on the south coast of England 1917-18.
Taught school at Atchelitz School 1919.
Pilot Officer with the Canadian Air Board at Jericho Beach Station, Vancouver BC 1920-24.
RCAF at Esquimalt, Kingston Ont, Winnipeg Man, Ottawa, London England, and Victoria BC. 1924-44
Exchange officer with RAF in 1928 when he commanded a training cruise of 4 Southhampton flying boats that toured Scotland in Oct/Nov 1928. He landed the first aircraft to visit Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye on 7 Nov 1928. Retired as Air Commodore, Western Air Command, Victoria BC in 1944
Unsuccessful Conservative Party candidate in the 1945 Federal election.
Seabee aircraft distributor 1945.
